Three Birds
Ben Onachila
In the roof’s gutter
three birds splash
in water stoppered
by the collection of
leaves and I remember
a moment so long ago:
three children in a tub,
myself and two sisters,
mother hen washing us
down the line from
late summer’s play,
splashing, joyful
no thought to where
we would one day fly.
