The Voices in Our Heads
Fred Carroll
There is a ghost
Within us
And you know it
Because it
Talks to you
All the time.
And it is you.
And is not you.
And it is committed
To not always
Being your friend.
Not always
On your side.
It might even
Hate you sometimes
But can love you too,
Somehow.
And it is part of you
Forever.
Maybe part of everything.
I notice this
Whenever my
Twenty pound terrier
Goes growling after
A Great Dane.
Or when I see a
Jaybird
Chasing a cat.
Or when I find myself
Still thinking about
Skydiving
At 79.
