Severed
Cathy Porter

When you left, I knew the day
would stick; our road close
to implosion.

I can’t make sense of why —
and we both know it’s pointless
to sweat the effort.

One sky does not fit all; some of
us never find the sun, even
on days that pop just right.

It rained again tonight — the
basement flooded. That’s the good
news. I’ll be busy with clean-up.

Don’t bother to stop by, or call
to check in. No need to start new
habits; the old ones aren’t finished.
