Next Morning
Peter R. Selover
If love was a cat
that was lost
how many of us
would put out a bowl
of milk for it?
love can be
that neon sign
on the side of the road
that once had twelve letters
even though only four of
those letters still work
it is the light from
those four letters
that allows you
to get home safe
on the darkest nights
and the next morning
all of us are
piles of books
on days that we
share our love
it is more likely
that people will
read those books
without love
time is just math
love is a road sign
directing traffic
away from death
love is a name
when you pronounce
it the right way
all of the monsters
will sit down
maybe love is a song
started by God
that we get to finish
