Lord Would You
Diane Glancy

I took you to my house and you did not fit
in the narrow hallway
the rooms barely wide enough for a small bed
the ceiling sat on our heads
ghosts were there that wanted most of the place
but there was room on the sofa
if you moved the papers and books and the blanket
I covered my legs with
you could find a pencil caught between the cushions
we could write
you could rest your feet
we almost could be home.
