Ditched
Sarah M. Brownsberger
Older, taller, stronger, male,
He pants in his zeal
To leave me behind,
All knees and heels
As he pumps the pedals.
Lungs burning, tears oozing,
I reach a clearing and give up
And notice a Monarch
Poised on milkweed. Song
Sparrows thrill. I dart my hand
Past thorns for berries.
